Doin' Some Cookin'... Strawberry Banana Smoothie

This smoothie is made with a classic combo of strawberries and banana making for the perfect afternoon snack. But could obviously be made anytime of the day.

Smoothies are a great way to suck up vitamins and nutrients into your diet.

Knowing that tomorrow is Thanksgiving and having intentions of stuffing myself on all the yummy eats I knew my eating has to be on point. I've been good since Monday following the Whole30 diet and actually making it a point to workout too. Patting myself on the back.

After I sucked this down I ended up throwing on my workout clothes and heading to the gym. This smoothie provided the perfect energy boost to get me through my workout.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Apple Pie Smoothie

Enjoy apple pie anytime of the day with this delicious smoothie without the guilt. It seriously tastes like apple pie a la mode. If only I had some whip cream to top this off and another dash of cinnamon, mmm.

But don't be like me in wanting to make something healthy unhealthy. Don't ditch your diet.

Instead grab for five ingredients and whip up this smoothie... Easy as pie. Had to, I'm lame.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Mango Berry Green Smoothie

Mangoes are one of my favorite fruits. I love a taste of the tropics.

This smoothie is perfectly sweetened naturally by the mango with a little hint of tartness from the raspberries and gets its creaminess from the coconut milk.

Starting the morning with a green smoothie makes me feel like I'm doing something great for my body and even better when I don't have to taste the greens because mangoes are the predominate flavor. This smoothie will keep you filling full and energized until lunch time.

Knowing that I started my day with a healthy choice will lead to me making one healthy choice after another.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Strawberry Spinach Green Smoothie

I've created the countdown calendar above to help keep me on track until my 29th birthday with diet and exercise. A balloon means that my diet was Whole30 compliant and I got at least 30 minutes of exercise in. Off to a good start already.

Smoothies are still my "flavor of the month" breakfast. They are ridiculously easy to make and I love that I can pack fruit and veggies in my diet first thing in the morning. Smoothies retain their fiber unlike juicing.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Matcha Green Tea Smoothie

Sipping this Matcha Green Tea Smoothie makes me feel super healthy. Probably because Matcha tastes earthy to me and is a vibrant green color. Speaking of Mother Earth... now I'm ready to get outside to enjoy this sunny 70 degree morning by going for a walk or bike ride. Can't decide so maybe I'll do both.

Good thing this smoothie provides a caffeine kick cause I'll need extra energy for powering through two workouts.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Chai Spice Smoothie

This Chai Spice Smoothie is deliciously spicy from a combination of spices and satisfies my craving for a Soy Chai Latte from Starbucks which is not diet compliant.

Smoothies are just so convenient because of how quick and easy they are to throw together and due to their portability. Health in a glass on the go.

Chai spices are known for their antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and support digestive health.

It doesn't matter that Chai spices are associated with the Fall because this is delicious all year long.

After getting in an early morning workout I needed a post workout meal and reached for a handful of ingredients to make this Health Nut Blueberry Smoothie. What a perfect start to my Saturday!

This has been one of my favorite smoothies I've tried recently with natural sweetness from the banana and blueberries, a creaminess from the almond milk and almond butter, and texture from the dried coconut flakes. So good. Repeat worthy.

Livin' It Up... Mulberry Love Review

(The packaging is so adorbs!)

Little Man watched me open a care package from Mulberry Love. As I was pulling bottles of juice out of the box he asked, "What's a mulberry?"

Crickets.

It looks like a blackberry or raspberry but that's all I could come up with. Scratching my head I resorted to searching the Internet and admitting that Mom doesn't know everything. Supposedly mulberries have a mild honey taste and are a nutrition powerhouse.

Mulberries are a "superfood" loaded with antioxidants and the company, Mulberry Love, figured out a way to bottle up immunity boosting-brain powering properties. Hello health in my hand.

These juices are all-natural with no additives and naturally sweetened.

Grab a bottle to reap the benefits:
  • Immunity Boost
  • Memory Enhancement
  • Inflammation Reduction
  • Vital for Vision
  • Heart Health
  • Energy
  • Skin Support
  • Hydration
  • Increased Metabolism
  • Weight Loss

Sunday morning Little Man and I made a trip to Costco to stock up on smoothie making ingredients. No surprise at all, which as you can tell from my previous blog posts I have been on a smoothie kick lately. They are a quick and easy way to fill your body with dense nutrition.

After we got home, unloading the groceries was quite a workout so worked up quite an appetite. If you've never shopped at Costco it is bulk items and they do not bag anything. The items may be heavy and unloaded one by one. Racking up those steps on FitBit and building those biceps. Ha!

Because it was close to lunchtime we decided on a smoothie to go with turkey sandwiches. As I was making the smoothie Little Man asked if he could try the juice on it's own first to make sure he would like it. So I popped open the bottle of Mulberry Juice with Green Tea and he compared the smell and taste to pomegranate juice, smacked his lips, and let out an "mmm".

Getting him in the kitchen gets him trying new foods and I'm all about promoting healthy habits. Now that we've fueled our bodies it's time to get out of the kitchen and outdoors to enjoy this almost 80 degree day.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Sweet Citrus Avocado Green Smoothie

I'm kinda in a detox mode right now after hitting a four week plateau. Self-inflicted since I let working out and healthy eating go by the wayside. It's time for me to trade in dairy, soy, legumes, carbs, sugar, and alcohol for whole foods. So I decided to start my second round of Whole30 yesterday and it feels good to be back in the swing of things.

It's time focus on healthy habits and green smoothies make it effortless to do so.

This smoothie packs some of my favorite items from the produce section, especially avocado. Avocado makes this smoothie creamy while the clementines give it a bright citrusy flavor.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Pomegranate Berry Smoothie

Nothing like a smoothie to beat the Texas heat, even Springtime brings high temps. Can we just enjoy a season as it's intended please?!

This smoothie is refreshing and packed with health-protecting antioxidants. Pomegranates have anti-inflammatory properties, reduce the risk of cancer, and can help manage cholesterol and weight loss.

I did not like pomegranate juice the first time I tried it on it's own but now I love it. It's tart with a touch of sweetness. You can use pomegranate juice or pomegranate arils, your preference.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Orange Cream Smoothie

One sip of this Orange Cream Smoothie and memories of the mall food court in Las Vegas with my mom flooded my memory. She would always treat me an Orange Julius when we'd go to the mall. I was easily bribed with food to run errands with her. If I knew lunch or a snack was part of the deal I was in!

I had some errands to run so I made this smoothie and a fried egg before heading out for the day and a trip to the mall was called for. I visited Barnes and Noble and picked up a book filled with smoothie ideas Little Man will love and swung over to Whole Foods to pick up a bag of oranges because Little Man is away for the weekend spending time with his dad but I know he would have loved this smoothie. Can't wait to make this for him for breakfast before school tomorrow.

This smoothie is deliciously creamy, healthy, and packed with Vitamin C. Bright and sunshiny... speaking of sunshine, this girl needs some sun and a tan.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Tropical Chia Smoothie

It's not summertime yet but the temps here in Texas have said otherwise. These hot days have me craving the beach and pina coladas.

The only problem is that alcohol and being beach body ready isn't in the cards. Not only is it the alcohol in a pina colada but all of the added sugar that cause belly fat. Um hello, fruit alone is sweet enough. So a healthier alternative is to make a smoothie instead with unsweetened coconut milk and chia seeds to help banish that belly fat.

This smoothie is thick, creamy and ice cold which is perfect for cooling down and keeping your beach body in mind. Just a heads up, chia seeds swell in liquid the longer they sit which will make this much thicker if it's not enjoyed right away.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Lime and Coconut Green Smoothie

The weather here is Texas has done a 180. We went from Summer temps to a cold and windy day. The warmer temperature had me dreaming of a beach vacation laying out sipping mojitos in the sun and this dreary day was not going to stop my plans of making this Lime and Coconut Green Smoothie for breakfast to get a taste of the tropics.

A green smoothie is the perfect way to sneak veggies in your diet giving a boost of energy and nutritional goodness. The lime and banana are the perfect disguise for the spinach.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Strawberry Banana Spritzer

I made this Strawberry Banana Spritzer as a quick snack before heading out to have lunch with my best friend for her birthday. The weather has warmed up here in Texas during the days and this was so smooth and refreshing. I chose to use fresh fruit but you can use frozen if you want more of a slushy texture.

Doin' Some Cookin'... Morning Smoothie

I was getting tired of chomping on carrot sticks and needed to use up the bag of baby carrots that Little Man and I were getting burnt out on. Being creative one morning I decided to juice them with some other fruits that were close to their expiration dates as well. I absolutely love carrot juice because of it's sweetness. Why didn't I think of this sooner?!

Doin' Some Cookin'... Pomegranate & Cherry Smoothie

(Not a great photo but you can see the spinach but you can't taste it.)

Since cherries are not available all year round buying them frozen is the perfect solution so I can enjoy them in smoothies.

Cherries are packed with antioxidants that aid in the reduction of heart disease and cancer. Cherries also contain melatonin which is an antioxidant that helps regulate heart rhythms and the body's sleep cycle.

Cherries can also reduce pain and joint soreness which makes this a perfect post workout meal option or for arthritis sufferers. due to their anti-inflammatory properties.

Pomegranates are also antioxidant powerhouses.

As a kid I loved eating the arils but now I find the gritty texture to turn off my taste buds so buying pomegranate juice is a better alternative for me. If you enjoy the arils use those instead for the extra fiber boost.

Adding spinach to this smoothie makes it a "green" smoothie and you know I love sneaking veggies into our diet as much as possible and the banana in this helps to mask the taste.

(My smoothie was quite frothy and studded with spinach.)

Pomegranate & Cherry Smoothie
Adapted From: GreenReset
Makes 1 Serving

Doin' Some Cookin'... Strawberry, Apple, and Banana Smoothie

I have big plans to make my way through a list of almost 100 smoothies. Just because I effin' love smoothies that much and not to mention they can be a fairly healthy option for any meal of the day.

Because the weather in Texas has been known to jump from winter to spring in February I'm so not ready for t-shirts and shorts. That is why I am so dedicated to my weight loss this time around. I get it, my track record hasn't been the best but for the last month I've got it together losing an average of 2.5 lbs a week!! Down 9.5 lbs so far. Yay!

Whipping up a smoothie only takes about 5 minutes making breakfast a breeze for a quick-on-the-go option as in on-the-go to work. Boo! (Not really. I love my job!) Adding bananas to my smoothies is one of my favorite additives for natural sweetness and to help thicken it up. Blend it, pour it, drink it, and breakfast is done, easy peasy!
